  2. A few interesting note here:
    (1) the order of the cinemas should be from right to left. Remembered in the 70s and early 80s, cinemas were still divided politically. Apart from “lefties” “double-South” circuit, most circuits were read from the right. This started to change in the mid-80s due to newspaper settings. Golden Harvest I think was one of the last to switch from right to left.
    (2) Like David suggested, it’s the opening film for Palace.
    (3) Astor was newly moved from showing Mainland Chinese movies to foreign movies, hence it needed to have the sound systems improved.
    (4) I missed some of the original “font-type” of cinemas. From this advert, you can see Palace had its own font-type, so as Imperial (which was the same as the later New Imperial from the same owner). Astor shared the same font type with Ruby (Tau Kwa Wan) at the beginning but Ruby dropped it in the mid-70s.

小弟是年在新光戲院重看The Sound of Music。

    • David, Agree. They became lazy in the 80s and I can only remember two notable ones, Palace and M2, both were modern-esque. I cannot remember Golden Palace or Kim Wah so I can’t really say much. Newport circuit used “coral” font type for their whole line of cinemas in 1990 (or 91). To me that was horrible, very childish. Do they still use that? hhpy

        • me too! hhpy
